In September 2002, the HKRFU and the David S Davies Foundation established a RUGBY ACADEMY (Academy) to provide promising young rugby players an opportunity to develop their rugby skills, education and life style in order that they gain places in HKSAR representative teams and take full advantage of rugby and career opportunities in Hong Kong. The students would then be ideally placed to both make a meaningful contribution to Hong Kong Rugby and benefit from the many other qualities that cascade from the game of rugby.
The Academy, is a school without a permanent location or building – taking advantage instead of a ‘campus’ of a variety of sports venues and facilities in Hong Kong. The Academy also makes full use of existing initiatives and functions of the HKRFU (focus groups, clubs, courses etc) and augments these with various additional and specialized modules, making a comprehensive framework to meet the Academy objective(s).
