David S. Davies lived and worked for many years in Hong Kong and established a deep and genuine affection for the city and its people. Following a Courageous battle against cancer, David S. Davies died in June 2000 in London aged 57. David left a legacy of gentlemanly business practice in which honour, integrity, canny foresight and wholehearted dedication to service were cornerstones of his widely-respected personal style. He made lifelong friends wherever he went. His charm, genuine concern for others, and exceptional good humour, ensured him a special place in everyone’s heart.
David placed great importance on the community in which he lived and worked and he left a personal imprint on the lives of so many. Above all David liked to help young people. Few things gave him greater pleasure than to give his time, use his personal connections, or offer advice and funding to help young people to develop and fully realise their talents, abilities and ambitions. He founded and built one of Hong Kong and Asia's most prominent integrated property services companies, which became the global entity of FPD Savills. But he never forgot that his success owed much to the free market environment in Hong Kong and the strong work ethic of its people.
It was for this reason he gave freely of his time and involved himself in many charitable activities. It was his way of giving back to Hong Kong and it's citizens part of what they had given him. Having learned late in 1999 that he had a limited time to live and before he died in June 2000, David expressed the wish that his charitable works and initiatives in Hong Kong should not die with him. The David S. Davies Foundation has been established to implement this wish.
